Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds Sunday night and Monday morning flooded the road to Endalen and forced the closure of the pedestrian bridge at Perleporten near the center of town.

The flooding in Endalen is primarily affecting a few buildings used by Store Norske for non–mining purposes, according to Martin Langteigen, who observed the road and took photos of it late Monday morning. The pedestrian bridge is closed for repairs to its foundation which are expected to be completed by the end of the day, according to a statement issued by the city of Longyearbyen.

Up to four millimeters of additional rain is forecast Monday afternoon and evening, with partly cloudy skies expected Tuesday and Wednesday.
