Polarizing art: ‘Crazy’ overtakes quality as ten live performance artists squeezed into nine-day Arctic Action festival


Quality (and quirky) art – such as a guy being buried alive in coal – was the emphasis when it debuted last year. This year they’re just rushing impulsively through things all at once.

A rock decorated by Swedish artist Joakim Stampe keeps on eye on passerbys along the main pedestrian walkway in the center of Longyearbyen. Stampe is in Svalbard from June 14 to 22 as part of the Arctic Action live art festival, featuring five individual or group artists visiting intermittently and exhibiting largely improvised works at various locations.
